Tilly makes a welcome visit

Tilly Lockey visits SONE to meet some of the staff

An exceptional young lady made a welcome visit to SONE Products Ltd recently to say a personal thank you for the support the company and its employees have provided her.

Seven year old Tilly Lockey popped in to SONE’s manufacturing facility in Stanley, where it provides plastic applicator and dispensing solutions, to meet with some of the staff who helped to raise over one thousand pounds for Give Tilly a Hand – an appeal set up in the little girl’s name by her mother, Sarah.

Tilly suffered from a form of meningitis and, at a very young age, she lost both hands and her toes as a result of the illness. Realising that as she grew, Tilly would require a lot of support with the upkeep and renewal of her prosthetic hands as well as some security for her future needs and adaptations, Sarah launched the appeal.

Throughout the year the appeal organises its own events in an attempt to raise funds for the kind of financial support that Tilly needs, however, according to Sarah, it is the unexpected and unsolicited support they receive from companies such as SONE and its employees that never fails to humble both her and Tilly.

She said: “The kind of generosity shown by SONE and its employees is really heart warming. Without this kind of support our job would be made even harder, particularly at the moment when everyone is tightening their belts. I feel it is important for Tilly to meet with the people who have given so generously, so that she can say a personal thank you. It also gives us an opportunity to tell supporters how well Tilly is doing and how the money they donate is spent.

Visits like this also help Tilly with her confidence, as she meets new people in new environments.“

During the visit, improvement engineer, Stuart Porter explained to Tilly what SONE does and from that, using Play Doh and moulds, she was able to grasp, albeit in a small way, how products are made using plastic. As a reminder of her visit to SONE, Stuart gave her the Play Doh kit to take home and share with her three sisters.
